Asking the Späti line about the nearest ATM
A real situation from the OGIMA community · Everyday Berlin
The scene
You stand behind two people buying beer and ask the room in general which direction has the closest cash machine without a fee. The person ahead of you points down the block and then corrects themselves.
Why this moment is tricky in Germany
Berlin Späti-queue culture turns the shop into an informal information kiosk — nearest ATM, open pharmacy, bus still running — because Späti staff are too busy to know but regulars aren't. Asking the line is normal. In cities where corner-shop queues are silent, the general-question-to-strangers move feels forward.
Rehearse it before it happens
This situation is practised out loud in OGIMA: you speak, an AI conversation partner answers back, and you rerun it until the real thing feels routine.
