Splitting the bill at the Rüyam döner terrace

A real situation from the OGIMA community · Everyday Berlin

The scene

The receipt lands on a sticky plastic tray and four friends lean in with their phones. Someone's counting chairs, someone's tallying the drinks, and someone's checking what they owe each other from last Thursday.

Why this moment is tricky in Germany

Berlin friend-group splitting culture — especially around döner joints like Rüyam, Mustafa's, or Tadim — runs on rough precision: divide by head for the mains, but adjust for the person who didn't order a drink. Splitwise is normal but never fully trusted. In cultures where one person treats the group or where full-app-split is standard, the Berlin 'eh, just round it' approach feels unusually communal.

Rehearse it before it happens

This situation is practised out loud in OGIMA: you speak, an AI conversation partner answers back, and you rerun it until the real thing feels routine.
