Smoothie chaos in the shared kitchen
A real situation from the OGIMA community · Everyday Life
The scene
The blender is loud, your roommate needs the counter, and you both need breakfast before 8 AM.
Why this moment is tricky in Germany
The shared WG kitchen (Gemeinschaftsküche) is where most roommate conflicts and bonds happen. Morning kitchen coordination is a daily negotiation: 'Bist du gleich fertig?' (are you almost done?), 'Kann ich kurz an den Kühlschrank?' (can I quickly get to the fridge?), 'Der Mixer ist zu laut' (the blender is too loud). German WG kitchen etiquette has unwritten rules: label your food in the fridge (or it becomes fair game), wash your dishes immediately (not 'later'), and never use someone else's special pan without asking. The Putzplan (cleaning rota) posted on the kitchen wall is the WG's constitution — ignoring it causes real tension. Breakfast vocabulary: 'Mixer/Standmixer' (blender), 'Haferflocken' (oats), 'gefrorene Beeren' (frozen berries), 'Hafermilch' (oat milk). The phrase 'Willst du auch einen?' (do you want one too?) when making a smoothie or coffee is the daily micro-kindness that keeps WG harmony alive.
Rehearse it before it happens
This situation is practised out loud in OGIMA: you speak, an AI conversation partner answers back, and you rerun it until the real thing feels routine.
