Why this moment is tricky in Germany
Shift handover is ritualized in every hospital, but the structure differs country by country. SBAR — Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation — is standard in anglophone and German-speaking healthcare; bedside walking handovers have replaced sit-down reports across the UK and Australia; in parts of France and Italy the exchange stays more conversational, which frustrates auditors but often speeds up actual care. German handovers weave in Pflegeprotokoll entries and medication review with a formality tourists watching hospital shows rarely notice.
