Fumbling for a cigarette under the neon sign
A real situation from the OGIMA community · Everyday Life
The scene
Midnight, outside the club, the bouncer watching from the doorway. You're patting your jacket pockets and it turns out you forgot your lighter. A stranger a few meters away is smoking, and you have to decide how to ask without disturbing their quiet moment.
Why this moment is tricky in Germany
Asking for a light outside a club is nearly universal, but the phrasing varies. In Germany a direct 'Feuer?' is standard and not rude. In Japan smokers usually hand over a lighter without speaking; in Spain, the exchange often comes with a short chat.
Rehearse it before it happens
This situation is practised out loud in OGIMA: you speak, an AI conversation partner answers back, and you rerun it until the real thing feels routine.
